RUET CSE Department hosts day-long workshop to promote inclusive technology development

A day-long Digital Accessibility Training (DAT) workshop was held at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET), on November 6, 2025, aimed at building awareness and hands-on skills in developing inclusive digital technologies for persons with disabilities. Event Summary The workshop was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), RUET, with active support from the Disability Innovation Lab (DIL) of Aspire to Innovate (a2i), university administration and relevant stakeholders. The program emphasized the vital role future engineers will play in ensuring digital accessibility and inclusive design in Bangladesh. Inaugural & Closing Session The closing session was attended by distinguished guests, including: Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Razzak, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, RUET — Chief Guest Md. Abdur Rafiq, Project Director (Joint Secretary), a2i — Special Guest Professor Dr. Md. Shahid Uz Zaman, Head, Department of CSE — Chair of the sessioon Faculty members from the CSE department, invited experts, and students were also present. The training sessions were conducted by Bhaskar Bhattacharjee, Accessibility Consultant at a2i. Workshop Highlights The workshop focused on key issues related to digital accessibility, including: International accessibility guidelines such as WCAG Principles of inclusive and universal design Importance of developing accessible and user-friendly websites and mobile applications for persons with disabilities Participants engaged in interactive discussions, shared ideas, and provided recommendations on making digital platforms more inclusive. Objectives of the Training The DAT workshop aimed to: Increase students’ awareness of digital accessibility challenges and solutions Develop practical skills in creating accessible digital content, websites, and mobile apps Share global best practices and successful case studies of accessibility innovation Encourage a human-centered and inclusive mindset in technological development Closing Remarks A strong message emerged from the workshop: ensuring equal digital access for persons with disabilities is essential for building an inclusive and progressive Bangladesh. RUET expects that the participating students will apply their knowledge to create more accessible and inclusive digital solutions, contributing to the national vision of an accessible Bangladesh.
